July 16 – Luke 5

Read Luke 5:1-11

Have you ever been working on something all day long and it feels like you are not making any progress? You’ve given it all you’ve got, and you’re about to call it a day and give up. That’s where James, John, and Simon Peter were at on the day that Jesus told them to go out deeper and cast their nets again.

Sometimes this can feel a lot like our faith. Things in our lives can make us feel discouraged and weary. For example, maybe you’re family isn’t supportive of you going to church or your friends from school don’t want to hear about God. When these situations come up in our lives, we need to respond in the same way that the disciples did and listen and trust in Jesus. When we do this, we too then become “fishers of men” because people see us living and speaking in a way that is honoring to God.
